According to a report from Spain's National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC), nearly 80% of electricity and gas claims submitted to Consumer Arbitration Boards in 2024 were resolved in favor of consumers. What Happened

During 2024, 968,000 electricity customers and 387,999 gas customers in Spain filed complaints with their respective utility companies.

Success rates for users in these initial company resolutions were 38% for electricity and 41% for gas.

When users escalated unresolved claims to one of Spain's 53 Consumer Arbitration Boards, their chances of a favorable outcome nearly doubled, with approximately 80% of cases resolved in their favor.

The CNMC noted that arbitration is a rapid, cost-free, and effective alternative to court proceedings, with simplified and largely electronic procedures.

Most electricity (97.8%) and gas (99.2%) customers have contracts with providers participating in these alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, although actual use remains limited.
